4. Rinse in cold water, then launder. Wash the garment in the warmest water safe for the fabric. Check before drying — heat will permanently set any remaining stain.

For delicate fabrics — wool, silk, linen, or structured garments like blazers and uniforms — skip the home treatment entirely and bring the item to a dry cleaner as soon as possible. The petroleum pre-treater can damage certain dyes and finishes.

What About Dry-Erase Markers?

Dry-erase marker ink contains a release agent that makes it easy to wipe off whiteboards — but it doesn't translate to fabric. Treat dry-erase stains like permanent marker: rubbing alcohol, blotting, and cold water rinse.
