Pre-Thanksgiving Garment Care in Houston: Get Your Holiday Wardrobe Ready
Pre-Thanksgiving Garment Care in Houston: Get Your Holiday Wardrobe Ready
Thanksgiving is the starting gun for Houston's holiday entertaining season. In the weeks between Turkey Day and New Year's Eve, most Houstonians attend — and host — more dinners, parties, and events than any other time of year.
If you wait until December to think about your holiday wardrobe, you'll be fighting the rush. November is the right time to get ahead of it.
Why November Is the Smart Month to Dry Clean
December dry cleaners are busy. Really busy. Houston families who host Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's events often discover wardrobe emergencies all at once in the second week of December — and everyone rushes in simultaneously.
By bringing in your holiday wardrobe in November, you:
- Get ahead of the December rush with normal turnaround times
- Have time to address any issues (loose buttons, minor repairs, stubborn stains) before the holidays
- Avoid the stress of a last-minute cleaning scramble before a major event
What to Bring In During November
Holiday dresses and gowns: That cocktail dress from last year's office party? It went into storage after the holidays. Even if it looks clean, bring it in. Set stains, body oils, and storage odors won't be obvious until you put it on — and by then it's the night before the event.
Men's suits and sport coats: Thanksgiving dinners, holiday happy hours, and end-of-year client dinners all call for a blazer or suit. A fresh press and professional clean makes a visible difference in how your suit hangs and how you carry yourself.
Table linens and holiday tablecloths: We clean and press tablecloths, linen napkins, and table runners. Thanksgiving and Christmas tablecloths often go into storage with last year's gravy or candle wax — November is the right time to restore them.
Embroidered and holiday-themed pieces: Embroidered sweaters, velvet tops, and specialty holiday fabrics need gentle handling. Don't trust these to a home washing machine.
Thanksgiving Dinner Stain Emergency Guide
Despite your best preparation, Thanksgiving dinner produces stains. Here's what to do if disaster strikes at the table:
Gravy: Scoop off solids immediately, blot the remainder — don't rub. Gravy is a combination of fat and protein; keep it cool (no hot water) and get it to us within a day or two. Old, dried gravy stains are much harder to remove.
Red wine: Blot immediately with a clean white cloth. Avoid commercial stain removers on wool or silk — they can damage fibers. Club soda helps dilute the stain temporarily. Bring the garment in as soon as possible.
Cranberry sauce: Similar to red wine — cool water blot immediately. The deep red pigment sets fast in heat. Don't machine dry before getting it treated.
Sweet potato / yam casserole: The orange pigment stains quickly, especially on light fabrics. Blot and bring in promptly.
Pumpkin pie filling: Oil-based, sets in heat. Same protocol — blot cool, bring it in.
Post-Thanksgiving Tip: Act Within 24 Hours
The golden rule of stain removal: the sooner you act, the better your chances. A wine stain treated within hours has a much higher chance of complete removal than one left for a week. After Thanksgiving dinner, sort through your family's clothing that night — identify what needs attention and bring it in Friday morning.
