Immediate treatment for ketchup:

1. Scrape off as much solid ketchup as possible with a spoon or credit card edge — do not smear
2. Blot remaining liquid with a clean white cloth
3. Flush with cold water from the back of the fabric
4. For washable fabrics, apply a gentle liquid dish soap or enzyme pre-treatment and let sit briefly before cold water laundering

Mustard: The Turmeric Problem

Mustard is one of the most difficult common food stains to remove because of turmeric. Turmeric is the spice that gives mustard its distinctive yellow color, and it is an extraordinarily powerful natural dye. Turmeric has been used to color fabric for thousands of years across multiple cultures — which tells you exactly how effectively it stains clothing.

Turmeric's active compound, curcumin, binds aggressively to fabric fibers and is resistant to most standard cleaning agents.
